NTB Museum Opens Exhibition Of Student Innovations Ahead Of WSBK

NTB Museum Opens Exhibition Of Student Innovations Ahead Of WSBK
NTB Museum Opens Exhibition Of Student Innovations Ahead Of WSBK.
Mataram, NTB - The Museum of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province is holding an exhibition of innovations made by vocational school students to welcome the implementation of the World Superbike (WSBK) event.

The exhibition entitled “Technology as a Source of Science and Culture” is being held from November 9–15, 2022, in the museum’s hall and is showcasing the creations of the students of Vocational Public High School (SMKN) 3 Mataram, head of the NTB State Museum, Ahmad Nuralam, said here on Wednesday.

The WSBK motor racing event will be held at the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit, Central Lombok district, NTB province, on November 11–13.

"We are holding this temporary exhibition to welcome WSBK as well as increase the number of visits to the museum. Hence, our exhibition is open two days before WSBK until two days after WSBK," the head of the museum added.

In addition to cooperating with the SMKN, the museum has worked with the NTB Provincial Research and Technology Agency (Brida) to display around 65 works based on the theme of technological revolution, he stated.

The innovations belong to four categories, namely household appliances, production machines, transportation technology, and communication technology.

One of the showcased innovations is an electric cidomo, a traditional carriage that is usually drawn by horses, Nuralam informed.

SMKN 3 Mataram and NTB Brida have many more innovation results, however, due to limited exhibition space, only a few of them are currently on display, he added.

"Hopefully, it can be a special attraction for tourists visiting the museum," he remarked.

Assistant I for government affairs and people’s welfare in the NTB provincial government, Madani M., lauded the implementation of the event.

"This activity is also a part of the promotion of historical tourism in our area," he stated.

A museum is a center of local civilization, thus if people want to see culture and technology created by the local community in one place, they should visit a museum, he said.

"Museums are not inanimate recollections, since their establishment aims to be seen as a lesson for the younger generation," he remarked.

Ministry To Review House Construction Work For Talang Mamak Tribe.
Jakarta -- Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini confirmed that her ministry will review the construction of habitable houses in the traditional area of the Talang Mamak tribe in order to support their quality of life.

"For housing, God willing, I will think about it. I will try to study it. Later, we will work on the houses according to our capabilities," the minister noted in a written statement received here, Friday (14/11/2022).

During a visit to a traditional village of the Talang Mamak Tribe in the Talang Jarinjing Village area in West Rengat Sub-district, Indragiri Hulu District, Riau, on Thursday, Rismaharini paid heed to the residents' requests for decent housing.

The minister emphasized that empowerment for Remote Indigenous Communities (KAT), such as the Talang Mamak tribe, was one of the responsibilities of the Ministry of Social Affairs for the welfare of Indonesian people. She stressed that the state should be present for all citizens, including the Talang Mamak tribe.

Rismaharini affirmed that her side will conduct a survey on the location to be used as a place for the construction of livable houses, including the availability of land and structure of the building, since houses of the Talang Mamak tribe had a distinctive design.

The minister also invited the community to jointly identify their problems and needs.

In addition to housing, the Talang Mamak Tribe requested that a traditional hall be constructed in accordance with customary norms. They also requested for an ambulance, as it was a requirement for several residents in remote areas in order to access health services quickly.

"I will review and follow up on this request," she stated.

Furthermore, the discussion highlighted the participation of the Talang Mamak Tribe in the Family Hope Program (PKH). The Ministry of Social Affairs and local governments will work together to verify data.

"Later, we will match the data for the beneficiaries. Please submit your data to the village head," she stated while answering a question about PKH participation by a member of the Talang Mamak Tribe.

There are at least 307 heads of families living in Talang Jarinjing Village. Meanwhile, thousands more are spread across several areas in the provinces of Riau and Jambi.

On the same occasion, Minister Rismaharini and head of Indragiri Hulu District Rezita Meylani Yopi distributed assistance in the form of 50 basic food packages to the community.

Tangerang, Banten - The trend of cases of atypical progressive acute kidney injury in children in Indonesia has shown a significant decline, according to the Health Ministry.

"In recent weeks, almost none of the cases have been found. I check every morning at the Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital or Persahabatan Hospital. There may be one or two cases, but they are undergoing therapy," Director General of Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices at the Health Ministry Lucia Rizka Andalusia said in Tangerang, Banten Province, on Thursday.

At present, the number of cases of acute kidney injury has decreased considerably, with almost no new cases detected, she informed. In fact, Jakarta's Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital currently only has patients who are undergoing therapy or are recovering.

Further, Fomepizole is still being given to pediatric patients with acute kidney injury in Indonesia, she informed.

"Fomepizole is still being administered to children who are being treated. To administer it again, we'll see what the needs are," she said.

So far, the availability of pharmaceutical drugs for the treatment of children with kidney failure is still sufficient, with the stock pegged at 246.

“Now, we have 246 (doses), some were donated and some we bought (ourselves). It's still enough, but later we will stop for emergencies," Andalusia said.

Based on data, the number of acute kidney injury cases in Indonesia has reached 325 with the addition of 21 cases. Meanwhile, the number of deaths has touched 178.

In terms of age, 169 patients are one to five years old, 75 are less than a year old, 39 are 11 to 18 years old, and 42 are 6 to 10 years old.

HKN: Ministry Stresses Improving Health Access Through Technology

HKN: Ministry Stresses Improving Health Access Through Technology
Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin at the opening of the ‘Pharmaceutical and Health Device Technology Exhibition’ here on Thursday (November 3, 2022). (ANTARA/Azmi Samsul Maarif/FR)
Tangerang, Banten - The Health Ministry emphasized improving quality health access distribution across the country through technological transformation at the 58th National Health Day (HKN) commemoration.

"In the public service program, we will improve the entire public service laboratory," Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin informed at the opening of the “Pharmaceutical and Health Device Technology Exhibition” here on Thursday.

Starting from the integrated health post (posyandu) level, the ministry will provide services such as rapid tests and blood sugar examinations, he said.

Then, the ministry will make sure that all districts and cities have a good laboratory standard, he added.

It is expected that all 300 thousand posyandus in Indonesia will offer good health facilities by 2023 so that all services can be realized and can be felt directly by the people.

"We also expect that, at the level of the province, all health devices will be used well so that it can help in public service readiness," the minister said.

To distribute health services, the ministry will also add supporting health facilities at all hospitals in 514 districts and cities for the treatment of four diseases: heart, kidney, stroke, and nerve diseases.

"Moreover, 50 percent of all drugs, vaccines, and health devices should at least be produced domestically. Thus, we have to encourage all parties to purchase and use medicinal products from their own country," Sadikin said.

To support domestic drug production, the ministry will provide incentives to industries to independently produce their own vaccines and health devices.

"From the Rp38 trillion budget, we will encourage to use them to purchase domestically produced health devices. This year, we have already committed to spending Rp17 trillion on health devices," he informed.

As part of the implementation of the technological transformation in the health sector, the ministry will also develop the Citizen Health App (CHA), which will store people's personal health data for medical purposes, he added.

Through this, people's medical records will be integrated and made secure.

"For the next program, we will also add human resources from health workers, which is important if major incidents, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, occur. Thus, our health workers will be ready," he said.

Cherish The Past, Embrace The Future In Belangian

Cherish The Past, Embrace The Future In Belangian
Cherish The Past, Embrace The Future In Belangian.
Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan - Aunul Khoir, the head of Belangian Village, urged passengers of the traditional river boat klotok to have a moment to pray in front of a tomb that is considered sacred by local residents.

Unlike the general practice in a grave visit, this moment of prayer was conducted aboard the boat, in the middle of Riam Kanan Dam in Aranio Sub-district, Banjar District, South Kalimantan.

It is the grave of Nawiyah, a Banjarese religious figure, who fled from the Dutch colonial intimidation in 1800. The tombstone is no longer visible, as it now lays some 60 meters deep at the bottom of the dam.

The tomb is marked by four small wooden pillars surrounded by a plastic rope to form a rectangle.

Some flower garlands that has already dried up were seen tied to the plastic string.

Nawiyah's tomb was submerged as nine villages in Aranio District were drowned to the creation of the hydroelectric dam.

Development of the water reservoir that dams eight rivers in the Meratus Mountains area was started in 1958, and it was inaugurated in 1973 by then President Soeharto.

The 9,730-hectare reservoir was used as a Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA) for supplying electricity in several areas in South Kalimantan.

Residents of Belangian Village earlier resided in Kalaan Village, one of the villages that were flooded to build the reservoir.

"Our village used to be located on the banks of Kalaan River. The width of the river is about 30 meters," Hasriani, a Balangian resident, stated.

Hasriani, who is a descendant of the Dayak tribe, was born in Kalaan Village before it was submerged in the waters of the reservoir.

In the past, he said, Kalaan residents worked as farmers and gold and diamond miners.

After moving to Belangian Village, they are no longer miners but still work as farmers.

Tourism village

Aunul Khoir said, there were many unpleasant memories related to the construction of the dam, as villagers lost their livelihood, and compensation for them remained uncertain.

"I only heard these stories from my father, neighbors, and elderly people in the village," Khoir said, adding that he would also share it with the children.

However, life still goes on. They began to develop the tourism sector by making the most of the existence of Kahung forest.

Kahung is a protected tropical rain forest that is popular among adventurers.

Belangian Village, with a population of 350 people, has become a tourism village since 2018.

Usually, tourists come to this village to explore the Kahung tropical rain forest for its position as the gateway to Kahung.

Kahung Valley is one of the leading tourist destinations in South Kalimantan and is part of the Meratus Geopark area.

To enter this forest, visitors can walk from Belangian Village into the forest or take an ojek (motorcycle taxi) until the edge of the forest passing a narrow conblock path.

In the forest, visitors can enjoy the Kahung Valley waterfall. The forest is home to wild animals, such as long-tailed monkeys, honey bears, various types of birds, as well as various kinds of forest orchids and other rare plants.

Residents, apart from being farmers, also provide their houses for homestays for tourists.

According to Khoir, the average number of tourists visiting his village reached 100 per month.

Realizing the importance of the existence of Kahung Forest, he said, the villagers have built self-awareness to preserve the forest.

However, despite all these developments, the villagers have never forgotten the memories of their former village.

Khoir promptly nodded his head when asked to show the position of Kalaan Village before it was drowned.

"It is not far from here, about half an hour using a klotok," he stated.

Although Khoir is not a native of Kalaan Village, he had heard a lot about the past stories of the village from neighbors, village elders, and his parents.

"If you see the tip of dead trees in the middle of the dam, it is almost certain that down below used to be a village. But I cannot memorize all the names (of the villages)," he said.

When the dam's water level drops, he said, people can see more tips of dead trees from the former rubber plantation.

Respect the memory

Secretary General of the Global Geopark Network (GGN) Guy Martini, who visited the Belangian Village recently, said memories related to the ancestors' village would be interesting information for the visitors.

Moreover, it takes about two hours by klotok from the Tiwingan Village pier to reach the village that is located in the upstream of the Riam Kanan Dam.

During that two-hour journey, there should be some marked spots, where visitors can stop and get information about the spot, Guy stated.

"Here, we should find the soul of a geopark. (It is) because a geopark is not only about geology, but it also closely related to the biodiversity of the site, its culture, and all the stories of the ancestors," he remarked.

The involvement of local people will raise their pride, while for tourism operators, this information becomes something valuable to share and attract tourists, the Chairman of the UNESCO Global Geopark (UGGp) Council said.

He noted that there are at least four sites and 15 stop spots in the Riam Kanan area for visitors to obtain interesting information.

During the trip to Belangian Village, Guy stopped at several spots, such as Deer Island that is planned to be a deer sanctuary, Bekantan Island for proboscis monkey conservation, Pine Island that has attracted local tourists for its “instagrammable” views, as well as Siran Island that has an archaeological site in the form of a stone axe.

This archaeological site can be seen clearly when the water level of the dam recedes.

Guy also briefly stopped at Nawiyah’s sacred tomb and had a moment of silence along with Aunul. He also stopped to look at a large dead tree in the middle of the dam that carried a small green plate on its branch with one red dot. There was a writing on the plate that says “Friday, 15 January. Flood. 2021.”

Apparently, the tree and the plate were used as a marker for the water level when a big flood hit South Kalimantan in mid-January 2021. It was the worst flooding ever to have hit the province that inundated 11 of the 13 districts and cities for more than two weeks.

This memory will never be forgotten by the people of South Kalimantan.

Two Indonesians Survive Seoul's Halloween Crowd Surge: Embassy
Two Indonesians Survive Seoul's Halloween Crowd Surge: Embassy.
Jakarta - The Indonesian Embassy in Seoul confirmed on Sunday that two Indonesian citizens survived the Halloween crowd surge on Saturday evening but should be admitted to local hospitals for medical treatment.

The two Indonesians, only identified by their initials AR and CA, however, had been discharged from the hospitals after receiving the medical treatment, the embassy said in a statement on Sunday.

"AR has been discharged from Korea University's Anam Hospital on Sunday morning while CA who sustained a minor injury had left Seobuk Hospital, and returned home on Saturday evening," the embassy said.

The embassy further confirmed that none of Indonesians was among at least 151 people who got killed in the Halloween crowd surge that occurred in Seoul's popular nightclub district of Itaewon on Saturday evening.

The embassy, however, continued to coordinate with local authorities to obtain latest information on the victims.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the "sudden surge of Halloween crowds that instantly packed a narrow 4-meter-wide downhill alley in Itaewon District" killed at least 151 people and wounded 82 others.

Among the victims were 19 foreigners, including those from China, Iran, Norway and Uzbekistan, Yonhap said.

The Iranian Embassy in Seoul had confirmed the deaths of four Iranians in the Itaewon stampede, according to CNN.

South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol responded to the stampede that Yonhap recorded as the deadliest accident in South Korea since the sinking of the ferry Sewol in 2014 that killed 304 high-school students and others.

As reported by the Korea Times, President Yoon Suk-yeol declared a period of national mourning from Sunday until Saturday in response to the Halloween crush that he said "truly tragic".

President Yoon Suk-yeol said the "tragedy and disaster should never have happened."

"As president, who is responsible for the people's lives and safety, my heart is heavy and I struggle to cope with my grief," he was quoted by the Korea Times as saying in a statement on Sunday.

Soetta Airport Tightens Supervision To Anticipate Covid-19 Surge

Soetta Airport Tightens Supervision To Anticipate Covid-19 Surge
Soetta Airport Tightens Supervision To Anticipate Covid-19 Surge.
Tangerang, Banten - Soekarno Hatta (Soetta) International Airport in Tangerang, Banten has tightened supervision of the arrival of international travelers in an effort to anticipate a surge in COVID-19 cases.

"The principle is the same, we supervise (the movement of arriving passengers) whatever variant that is, because the most important thing is carrying out health protocols," Head of the Port Health Office (KKP) of Soekarno Hatta Airport Naning Pranoto said here on Sunday.

Pranoto said his party is tightening surveillance following a surge in COVID-19 cases in Singapore which reached thousands of cases per day.

He revealed that the surveillance process is carried out by readying thermal scanners at the arrival gates at the airport.

If there are passengers traveling from abroad with body temperature above 37.5 degrees Celsius, they will immediately be directed to take a swab test.

"The thermal scanner is at the forefront in the early detection of passengers, whether they are exposed to COVID-19 or not," he said.

According to him, a PCR test will be carried out by local health officials for passengers who tested positive for the swab test.

"Then, (if) the PCR result is positive, the examination would proceed to find out which variant is conducted," he explained.

In addition to the installation of thermal scanners at the terminals, the Port Health Office also conducts examinations related to the symptoms of passengers.

"If there are passengers who complain of having flu and temperatures above 37 degrees Celsius, then the officers will observe further," he said.

Meanwhile, there were new 2,717 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Indonesia on October 30, 2022.

To strengthen the implementation of health protocols and to prevent a spike in COVID-19 cases, the government emphasized the importance of increasing the coverage of booster vaccination ahead of the Christmas and 2023 New Year holidays.

Ministry Reopens Landslide-hit Majene-mamuju Road Section

Ministry Reopens Landslide-hit Majene-mamuju Road Section
Ministry Reopens Landslide-hit Majene-mamuju Road Section.
Jakarta - The Public Works and Housing Ministry has resumed the operation of Trans Sulawesi National Road section which connects the districts of Mamuju with Majene, West Sulawesi, after being cleared from a landslide that disrupted it.

Director General of Highways at the Public Works and Housing Ministry Hedy Rahadian stated here Sunday that, currently, one lane of the track which was impacted by the landslide had been opened.

"Thank God, one lane has resumed to function since Saturday, October 29, at 05.43pm local time. The landslide is quite vast, so the cleaning work for the opening of the two lanes will be carried out carefully, and will take time," he said.

He noted that the ministry would immediately prepare a permanent measure to prevent the recurrence of landslides in the future.

"A team of workers have already been on the field to prepare a permanent design for the overall slope setting," he stated.

Landslides that occurred at several locations on the Trans Sulawesi route were caused by downpour showering the area since Thursday, October 27.

The falls of rocks, soil, and even fallen trees occurred on the Mamuju District - Tameroddo on KM. 77+700, KM. 77+800, KM. 78+400, and KM. 84+200. Two directions of the landslide-hit road section had resumed to function as of Thursday at 05.08 pm local time.

However, on Thursday, October 27 at 07.00 pm local time, another big landslide occurred at KM. 84+500 (Sangiang) by covering about 100 meters since the soil and rocks containing water were still moving from the cliff.

Head of the West Sulawesi National Road Center at Public Works and Public Housing Ministry Sjofa Rosliansjah said that seven units of heavy equipment had been deployed to clean up the landslide materials.

"During cleaning, traffic is regulated by an open-close scheme in coordination with the police and equipped with security signs."

"Road users are expected to be careful. Traffic will be closed when it rains to reduce the risk of accidents (caused by) being buried by avalanches," they said.

Permanent handling will be carried out after a thorough study is conducted to avoid errors that can trigger the recurrence of landslides.

"The measures that will be taken by West Sulawesi National Road Center are mapping topography with longitudinal and transverse sections at the landslide location, conducting a thorough soil (geological) study at the landslide location, conducting soil laboratory testing and analysis, and then determining a ground handling," Rosliansjah added.
