Iranian Embassy Denies Allegations Of Violence Against Mahsa Amini

Iranian Embassy Denies Allegations Of Violence Against Mahsa Amini
Iranian Embassy Denies Allegations Of Violence Against Mahsa Amini.
Jakarta - The Iranian Embassy in Indonesia on Wednesday denied allegations that Mahsa Amini died due to violence committed by the Guidance Patrol, Iran’s morality police, dismissing them as Western and Zionist propaganda.

According to the Iranian Forensic Medicine Organization, Amini died due to cerebral hypoxia, sudden cardiac rhythm disturbance, decreased blood pressure, blood loss, loss of consciousness, and lack of oxygen to the brain.

"We recently often read (about) the developments in the case of Mahsa Amini's death," Iranian Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Khoush Heikal Azad, said at his residence here on Wednesday.

"Thus, we decided to hold a press briefing with all of you to talk about this development," he added.

The tragedy unfolded when Amini was found flouting the hijab regulation and was detained by the Guidance Patrol. She died in the patrol's custody.

When Amini died, several government officials, including the supreme leader, the president, and the head of the supreme court coordinated to investigate the cause of her death, a process which took about a month.

Before the investigation began, various discourses on social media and Western mainstream media brought up the idea that Amini died due to abuse, he noted.

Moreover, the disorder that occurred in the wake of Amini's death was dubbed as a protest for freedom and human rights, he remarked.

However, he said that this description was utilized by the West and Zionist Israel to undermine the current Iranian government, which emerged after the Islamic Revolution.

This undermining of the Iranian government was also reflected in the one-sided sanction imposed by the West. Sanctions, as the UN has informed, have serious repercussions on a country's citizens, he said.

In addition, the ambassador called Western criticism a form of double standard given the various atrocities committed by the West.

Azad said he expects the Indonesian media to maintain objectivity and present various viewpoints while letting the readers be the final arbitrators regarding the Amini case.

Use of appropriate technology fueling optimism in villages: ministry
Use of appropriate technology fueling optimism in villages: ministry.
Cirebon - The Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration Ministry has informed that the use of appropriate technology has led to villages looking at the future with more optimism.

"Technological innovation always acts as a spring, which makes countries, regions, and villages (advance) further, making the future (filled with) optimism,” the head of development and information at the ministry, Ivanovich Agusta, said at the “Nusantara Appropriate Technology Event” in Cirebon, West Java, on Wednesday.

Currently, villages have succeeded in changing the innovation diffusion curve, he noted. During the 2017–2018 period, the village innovation project managed to compile the names of more than 20 thousand innovation-producing villages, which account for 29 percent of villages in the country.

"The reality on the practice is definitely more than that," he remarked.

Agusta said that villages have now succeeded in creating a vast opportunity for innovation by improving their innovation ecosystem.

He further noted that Wednesday’s event had brought inventors and the market together.

"Therefore, throughout the ‘Nusantara Appropriate Technology Event,’ a business meeting room will also be provided," he said.

On the same occasion, Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration Minister Abdul Halim Iskandar said that currently, there has been an increase in the use of appropriate technology in villages, both for agriculture, animal husbandry, and aquaculture.

Thus, the use of appropriate technology could increase production and generate added value for people who live in villages, he added.

Iskandar said he expects the use of appropriate technology to enable rural communities to do their jobs.

"Technology can facilitate and benefit the village community, as well as raise the awareness of villagers to use appropriate technology to create added value," the minister added.

Bandung, West Java - The Hasan Sadikin Hospital of Bandung has treated 12 children with acute kidney disorders since August 2022 when the disease started to be detected in the country, according to the hospital's consultant.

Most of the patients were under the age of six years, while the oldest was 13 years of age, Prof. Dany Hilmanto, the hospital's consultant for child nephrology, stated here on Wednesday.

"As of today, the total has been 12 children, and now, three people are being treated, including one in the ICU, and another has improved, and God willing, he can go home," he remarked.

While treating children, the hospital has always coordinated with the Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI), so that they could immediately uncover the cause of the mysterious disease.

The hospital has also referred to the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health concerning the handling of acute kidney disease in children, he remarked.

The guidelines provide a clear flow of handling with the support of health facilities at the community health center (puskesmas) level.

Hilmanto reminded the public that if a child has fever, cough, or runny nose for 14 days, then they are recommended to immediately go to hospital and undergo a medical checkup.

"If it is normal, then it is monitored, and if it is not normal, then the patient is taken to a referral hospital. The guidelines have also been clearly stated," he remarked.

Meanwhile, Nephrology Division staff Dr Ahmedz Widiasta said the 12 patients came from Bandung City, Bandung District, and other areas outside Bandung.

The hospital continues to coordinate with the health offices in various regions to detect the disease early, so that treatment can be conducted as early as possible.

"Hence, many of them are under five years of age, and the symptoms are fever but not too high, vomiting, coughing, and runny nose," Widiasta stated.

Mount Kerinci Spews Ash, Tnks Closes Climbing Routes Temporarily

Published from Blogger Prime Android App
Jambi - Mount Kerinci in Jambi province spewed thick ash on Wednesday, prompting the management of Kerinci Seblat National Park (TNKS) to close climbing routes temporarily.

The volcano began shooting thick ash into the sky at 6:20 a.m. local time, spokesperson for the Mount Kerinci Monitoring Team, S. Mamory, said.

Black ash from the eruption could still be seen as of Wednesday evening.

The TNKS management closed climbing routes after the volcano spewed thick ash.

However, the alert status for Mount Kerinci remained at Level 2.

"It (thick ash) frequently happens, but its frequency is long," he said.

Sub-coordinator of the Mount Kerinci Observatory and Investigation Post, Ahmad Basuki, advised local residents and visitors to not go within a three-kilometer radius of the crater.

"We also advise the public to wear masks for fear that the ash will disturb them," he added.

Based on the results of monitoring, the ash moved in a northwesterly direction, he said.

He also advised airplanes to avoid flying near the volcano since it could erupt anytime.

Acting chief of the Kerinci District Disaster Mitigation Office (BPBD), Darifus, said his office received a report of the volcano emitting thick black ash from the officer posted at the Mount Kerinci observatory post.

"It is true that our call for the public aligns with the report from the Mount Kerinci observatory post," he said.

The volcano will be off-limits to climbers as of Wednesday, spokesperson for the TNKS Office, Erik Rico Ferdian, said.

Local residents have been allowed to carry out activities as usual although the volcano has shown signs of increasing activity.

Indonesia Uses G20 Platform To Discuss Global Aviation Recovery

Badung  - Indonesia took advantage of its G20 presidency to discuss global aviation recovery and the financial policies that member countries need to formulate during a dialogue between stakeholders in Nusa Dua, Badung, Bali, on Tuesday.

At a G20 side event entitled “Financial Measures for Aviation Recovery,” Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said that the G20 countries, together with global organizations in the field of aviation and industry, need to jointly identify the impact of the pandemic and then take global action to accelerate recovery.

"The financial aspect is crucial in the aviation industry. Therefore, this dialogue provides a record of lessons learned, good experiences in countries to restore the aviation sector. Remember, what we are doing is the G20 program. So, not only for Indonesia, although Indonesia may be a good example after the pandemic, we can recover quickly even though it is not optimal," Sumadi added on the sidelines of the dialogue in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Tuesday.

He said that the G20 dialogue was attended in person by the president of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Salvatore Sciacchitano; officials from the International Air Transport Association (IATA); a number of international leasing companies; Aergo Capital, a major player in the aviation industry whose portfolio includes Boeing and Airbus; as well as transport ministers and senior officials from ASEAN member countries, the European Union, the United States, Italy, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and India.

"I am proud that the president of ICAO is willing to attend. In fact, the topic (dialogue) he gave was how the aviation industry rose."

"It is not easy to attend one event, but at this G20 prestige event, we created a side event that discussed efforts to awaken the aviation world as a whole,” Sumadi added.

Meanwhile, at the event, ICAO president Sciacchitano praised Indonesia's attitude and resolve to continue the G20 commitment to support the recovery of global aviation.

"The reason I am here is because I respect Indonesia's commitment, concern, and role in bringing aviation issues to be one of the concerns during its leadership at the G20," Sciacchitano said.

He informed that currently, aviation has become a sector that has been quite severely affected by the pandemic due to various restrictions on mobility and activities.

Before COVID-19, there were 4.5 billion international passengers traveling by air transport, he noted.

"However, during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, that number fell or minus 60 percent, then minus 40 percent in 2021," Sciacchitano added.

He said that this year, the ICAO observed that the number of passengers began to approach the levels seen in 2019 in several regions, including Europe, North America, and Latin America.

However, the total recovery of the global aviation sector is predicted in 2023, he said.

"Therefore, the aviation sector needs full support from the government, and related to this, the G20 Summit is an important opportunity to reaffirm the commitment of G20 countries in previous years to support the aviation sector, which will encourage economic and social growth,” the ICAO president added.

East Java sends assistance to support flood handling in Trenggalek

Sidoarjo, East Java - The East Java provincial government on Tuesday sent personnel and assistance to support flood handling in Trenggalek district.

"A team of personnel and logistics has been sent to support (the handling of the impact of the flood) in Trenggalek," East Java Deputy Governor Emil Elestianto Dardak informed at the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency's (BPBD's) Disaster Information Center, here on Tuesday.

He said that the provincial government has been monitoring the impact of disasters in Trenggalek district and other regions of East Java.

Based on the monitoring, he said the rainfall in East Java has been “extra high.”

"The rainfall has been above 100 to 300 (mm), hence, the southern region has to be vigilant for the next two weeks, and in this case, we focus on emergency response actions," he added.

The deputy governor also asked Trenggalek residents, especially children, elderly, and pregnant women, whose homes are located near a cliff, to temporarily evacuate to a safer place.

"In Trenggalek, we must ask residents to evacuate to a safer place, (especially those) whose houses are under a cliff," he said.

He also informed that several local governments have helped handle the impact of flooding in Trenggalek.

"Thank you, as Ponorogo (district) is willing to help with the inflatable boat. We hear that Tulungagung and Kediri want to support (by sending) personnel to Trenggalek," he said.

Furthermore, he said he expected the East Java BPBD to optimize the use of existing resources to deal with the impact of natural disasters.

"I thank the BPBD colleagues. These are moments that are certainly very energy-consuming, but hopefully, we can be at the forefront," he added.

On Tuesday, thousands of people were displaced after a flash flood inundated downtown Trenggalek and other sub-districts. The floodwaters reached a height of 1.75 meters.

Losses from the flood were estimated at tens of billions of rupiah given the large number of submerged homes, damaged infrastructure, and flooded agricultural areas.

BNPB Has Advised The Public To Remain Alert For Potential Hydrometeorological

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has advised the public to remain alert for potential hydrometeorological disasters throughout this year given that the phenomenon does not discriminate between seasons.

Historically, hydrometeorological disasters have occurred during the seasonal transition, acting head of the agency's Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center Abdul Muhari informed during an online disaster briefing on Monday.

"However, the seasons are currently not normal again. Sometimes (in) August, which should be dry, (it) is still raining and its intensity is even high," he noted.

Thus, given the historical record, there is not a single period within the year when people do not need to be alert against wet hydrometeorological disasters, he added.

For instance, due to high rain intensity, areas that were previously safe have become vulnerable to floods and landslides, he highlighted.

As per the agency’s records, between October 10 and 16, 2022, Indonesia witnessed 76 disasters, all of which were included in the wet hydrometeorological disaster category.

In the past week, floods have become one of the more frequently occurring disasters in Indonesia, with 36 flood events recorded in the country. There were also 23 incidents of extreme weather and 17 landslide incidents.

The incidents were reported from 56 districts or cities in 21 provinces across Indonesia.

The disasters claimed the lives of 13 people and left 10 people injured. In total, around 70,800 people were affected by the disaster incidents in the past week.

Of the total fatalities, eight people reportedly died due to floods, while five people died due to landslides in the country.

Floods and landslides during the period claimed the most lives in Bogor, West Java.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has already issued a warning for potential extreme weather in almost all regions of Indonesia, Muhari said.

Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini Visited Hundreds Of Refugees Affected By Landslides
Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini (second left) and Bogor Mayor Bima Arya Sugiarto on Monday (October 17, 2022) visited the evacuation site prepared at Jami Nurul Ikhlas Mosque, Bogor city, for residents affected by the Gang Barjo landslide, RT02/RW03, Kebon Jahe village, Kebonkelapa village, Central Bogor district.

Accompanied by the Mayor of Bogor, Bima Arya Sugiarto, the minister greeted residents at the refugee camp at Jami Nurul Ikhlas Mosque on Veteran Street on Monday afternoon, reviewed the refugee situation, and checked the availability of equipment.

"This is much better than other evacuations, which usually (use) tents. This is in a permanent place, then I also send a toilet, then close to it," she said.

The evacuation to Jami Nurul Ikhlas Mosque was better and safer than the evacuations for which the tents are generally used.

The landslides struck on the night of October 12, 2022. The minister, who immediately went to the landslide site, asked the sub-district administration to shift the refugees from the prayer room, which was close to the affected area.

At that time, the regional government coordinated with the Rizki Danoe Gordhi Foundation to shift the refugees to the Jami Nurul Ikhlas Mosque, which it managed.

The mosque is located in front of Veteran Street, which is much higher than the landslide site, and the mosque has easier access to the highway.

"Since yesterday, we have requested the head of the sub-district. Mr, this one, this one, it is really better and in my opinion the safest among the locations chosen last time. So, in my opinion, this location is the most safe," the minister remarked.

According to data from the Bogor Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency, 139 people from 54 families had to be evacuated due to the landslide in Gang Barjo.

The incident claimed the lives of four people who were buried by an avalanche, while four others survived. The search for the dead extended five days until Sunday afternoon (October 16).

The landslide materials were in the form of soil and rocks, as well as large chunks from buildings. Since it occurred in a narrow alley, the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency and the joint SAR Team could not bring heavy equipment to the location.

The bodies of the four victims who died in the landslide proved difficult to locate since they were buried four meters deep on average. Sniffer dogs were brought to several locations until they finally managed to help the team find the victims’ bodies.

Agent banks, QRIS expediting financial inclusion: Ministry

Agent banks, QRIS expediting financial inclusion: Ministry
Deputy Minister II of State-Owned Enterprises Kartika Wirjoatmodjo at the SOE international conference, which was followed online on Monday (October 17, 2022).
Jakarta - Agent banks and Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) have helped accelerate national financial inclusion in recent years, according to Deputy Minister II of State-Owned Enterprises Kartika Wirjoatmodjo.

He cited a survey conducted by the Financial Services Authority (OJK), which showed that Indonesia's financial inclusion index increased significantly from around 50 percent in 2015 to 83.4 percent in 2021.

"I think these two services (agent banks and QRIS) are the key of the increase in financial inclusion, from 50 percent (in 2015) to 84 percent in 2021," Wirjoatmodjo said at the SOE international conference on “The Role of SOEs in Broadening Financial Access,” which was followed online from here on Monday.

Furthermore, the two services initiated by the government have created an ecosystem in which there are many micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) actors involved, which has ultimately contributed to encouraging national economic growth.

In addition, the two services have also made it easier for citizens living in the maritime or archipelagic country.

"These two services (agent banks and QRIS) make it easier for people on every island to access banking remotely, without having to come to a branch office," Wirjoatmodjo pointed out.

Speaking at the conference on Monday, he informed that the government is improving financial inclusion for ultra micro business actors. Of the 45 million ultra micro business actors in the country, 30 million do not have proper financial access.

"They (ultra micro business actors) already have a bank account or financial payment. However, they do not have adequate access to finance," Wirjoatmodjo noted.

Not only that, for increasing financial inclusion, financial literacy is being honed and consumer protection improved.

"The community not only has easy access to finance but also has access to protection, this is very important," Wirjoatmodjo said.

The financial inclusion index in Indonesia reached 83.6 percent in 2021, and several key indicators supported the achievement, including an increase in access to finance, acceleration of the use of formal financial services, and improvement in the quality of financial services.

Ministry to start calculating Industrial Confidence Index in September

Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita.
Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita.
BORNEOTRIBUN JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry will start calculating the Industrial Confidence Index (IKI) in September 2022 through the National Industrial Information System (SIINas).

"We want to have precise and accurate figures on the perception of the industry," Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita noted in Jakarta, Friday.

According to Kartasasmita, the essence of IKI is similar to the Purchasing Manager's Index (PMI) of industrial manufacturing issued by IHS Markit to measure industry perceptions.

He pointed out that the Ministry of Industry was unaware of which industrial sectors were to be included in the calculation of IHS Markit to obtain the Indonesian manufacturing PMI figure.

"The PMI that we have received so far from Markit, we do not know which industries are surveyed. We only know that 400 companies were surveyed without knowing which sectors were surveyed," the industry minister remarked.

Kartasasmita noted that with the IKI, the government could gain an understanding of the perception of industry players, so they could mitigate and prepare policies that aligned with the industry needs.

The Ministry of Industry will distribute questionnaires to industries whose contents will not be too different from those submitted by IHS Markit and Bank Indonesia (BI).

According to the minister, the questionnaire will be distributed to several industries based on data of Operational Permits and Mobility of Industrial Activities (IOMKI).

"We already have the IOMKI data, with a total of 16 thousand companies registered by IOMKI," the industry minister said.

Nevertheless, Kartasasmita is grateful that Indonesia's Manufacturing PMI rose again in July 2022, which was 51.53, higher than the June 2022 figure of 50.2.

Moreover, he noted that Indonesia was one of the only three countries in the world that had clocked an increase in PMI in July 2022.

The Indonesian Manufacturing PMI was compiled by IHS Markit on the basis of answers to monthly questionnaires sent to purchasing managers, who are members of a panel comprising about 400 manufacturing companies.

The panel is grouped by sector size and company workforce in detail, based on its contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP).

Survey responses are collected in the second half of each month and indicate the direction of change as compared to the previous month.

The index varies between 0 and 100, with data above 50 indicating an overall gain as compared to the previous month, and below 50, an overall decline.

Indonesia's economy grew 5.44 percent in Q2 2022

Head of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) Margo Yuwono during an online press conference on Indonesia's economic growth in Jakarta on Friday (August 5, 2022).
Head of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) Margo Yuwono during an online press conference on Indonesia's economic growth in Jakarta on Friday (August 5, 2022).
Jakarta, 05/8 (BorneoTribun) - Indonesia's economy grew by 5.44 percent in the second quarter (Q2) of 2022 as compared to the same period last year (year-on-year/yoy), according to Statistics Indonesia (BPS).

Economic performance during the period was even better than that recorded before the pandemic and indicated that economic recovery since the second quarter of 2021 continues and is getting stronger, BPS stated.

"Economic growth this year has steadily increased. It started from the second quarter of 2021, the third quarter of 2021, the fourth quarter of 2021, the first quarter of 2022, and the second quarter of 2022, (the economy) continues to grow," BPS Head Margo Yuwono noted here on Friday.

The 5.44-percent growth was contributed by the increase in gross domestic product (GDP) at Current Prices (ADHB) and GDP at Constant Prices (ADHK), Yuwono elaborated.

In the second quarter of 2022, the GDP at ADHB was recorded at Rp4,919.9 trillion, an increase from the second quarter of 2021, at Rp4,176.4 trillion.

Meanwhile, the GDP at ADHK increased, from Rp2,772.9 trillion in the second quarter of 2021 to Rp2,923.7 trillion in the second quarter of 2022.

Yuwono said, as compared to the previous quarter (qtq), the domestic economy has grown by 3.72 percent.

"This growth is in line with the pattern of quarterly growth. Hence, the second quarter is always positive and higher than the first quarter, partly due to seasonal factors," he stated.

Cumulatively, he remarked that Indonesia's economy in the first half of 2022 was recorded to grow 5.23 percent as compared to the first half of last year.

Ministry pushes shopping center certification to draw investment

Director of investigation and dispute resolution at the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI) of the Law and Human Rights Ministry (Kemenkumham), Anom Wibowo.
Director of investigation and dispute resolution at the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI) of the Law and Human Rights Ministry (Kemenkumham), Anom Wibowo.
BORNEOTRIBUN JAKARTA - The Law and Human Rights Ministry is encouraging intellectual property-based shopping center certification to improve investor confidence to invest in Indonesia, according to the ministry's Directorate General of Intellectual Property.

So far, the ministry has certified 17 shopping centers and verified 77 submitted documents required for certification, director of investigation and dispute resolution at the directorate general, Anom Wibowo, informed here on Thursday.

The shopping center certification is part of Indonesia's efforts to be removed from the priority watch list (PWL) -- a list of countries that are considered by the International Intellectual Property Alliance (IIPA) to have serious intellectual property violations.

In addition to increasing the trust of foreign investors, the issuance of certification, at the direction of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), is expected to open as many investment opportunities as possible so that all countries can invest in Indonesia, the director noted.

Hence, the opening of the investment opportunities must also be supported by strict intellectual property law enforcement, he added.

To be eligible for certification, shopping centers must sell goods that have been listed in the data system of the directorate general, whether they are still in the application stage or have been registered, he informed.

Furthermore, the goods must not violate intellectual property.

“At least 70 percent of the merchants in the shopping centers must sell original goods (not fake ones),” Wibowo said.

The intellectual property-based shopping center certification program has been designated as a priority program of the directorate general for 2023 so that Indonesia can be removed from the PWL, he explained.

In the future, the certification will not only target modern shopping centers, but also traditional markets by adopting a humanist approach, for instance, by carrying out training and dissemination regarding intellectual property, he added.

The certification is expected to be expanded to various industrial centers in districts and cities, he said.

Even though the government has distributed BLT Cooking Oil, the President considers that currently cooking oil is still a problem in the community.

He also hopes that cooking oil prices can return to near normal prices.

“We want the price to be closer to normal. So the price is high, why? Prices outside, international prices are very high, so the tendency for producers to want to export is because the prices are high outside, he said.

The government itself has made various efforts to overcome this cooking oil problem, including through various policies such as setting the highest retail price (HET) for bulk cooking oil and subsidies to producers. However, the President sees that the policy has not been effective in recent weeks.

“In the market, I see that there is a lot of bulk oil that is not in accordance with the HET that we have set. It means, there is a game," he said.
